  • Laptop sleeve (included with every laptop checkout)

Borrowing Policy

The Cal Maritime Library lends laptops and iPads on a first-come, first-served basis for use by students, faculty, and staff.

Loan Period

  • Loan period is 4 hours.
  • Limit 1 laptop/iPad per borrower.
  • Renewals are allowed in person, at the Front Desk, when no one is waiting (no holds).
  • Laptops and iPads may leave the Library building.
  • No overnight loans. All laptops and iPads must be returned by 30 minutes before the Library closes.

In order to borrow a laptop or iPad, a borrower must have:

  • A Cal Maritime photo ID (PortPass) presented in-person at the Front Desk;
  • A Library account in good standing (i.e. no outstanding library fees);
  • A signed Library Laptop/iPad Liability form on file.

Loan Enforcement

  • The borrower agrees to return the equipment in the same order and condition as when received.  If equipment is damaged or lost while on loan, borrower agrees to reimburse Cal Maritime for the costs of repair or full replacement cost (laptops: $1,400; iPads: $600).
  • Overdue charge is a flat fee of $25.00,.
  • Please report loss, damage, or defect to the Front Desk immediately.

Printing Your Work

  • Printing from laptops is available via WEPA wireless print stations.

Security

  • Do not leave Library laptops or iPads unattended. You are responsible for the device checked out to you.
  • Use the included laptop sleeve to protect laptops from minor damage.
  • Personal software and apps may not be loaded onto the laptop or iPad. NOTHING CAN BE SAVED TO THE DEVICE. Each device is configured to delete all files on shut down or restart.
  • Suggestions for desired software may be made at the Front Desk. The Library, in consultation with IT, will consider each request.
  • SAVE ALL WORK externally OR EMAIL TO YOURSELF.

Assistance

  • The Library may answer a limited number of technical questions about operation of the Library laptops and iPads at the Front Desk. If major troubleshooting is required, someone at the Library Front Desk will contact the IT Help Desk.
  • Please report any hardware or software problems to the Front Desk staff when returning the device.
