Program Milestones

September - March 2000

¯    Created and delivered course-integrated class sessions and assignments in conjunction with First Year courses and a few advanced level courses

March 2000

¯    Program plan was developed

¯    Academic Senate reviewed and strongly endorsed program

April - September 2000

¯ First Year courses were identified for information fluency integration

¯   Course instructors reviewed and finalized class sessions and assignments

September - April 2001

¯   Course integrated class sessions and assignments were implemented

¯   Library planed and provided a series of faculty workshops

¯ Program was awarded a grant from The California State University Office of the Chancellor

¯ Held a two-day faculty development program focused on course integrated Information Fluency

January - April 2003

¯    Received a funding and authority to hire an "Information Fluency Librarian" to further develop the program

¯    Information Fluency Librarian hired

April 2004

¯ Program was awarded its second grant from The California State University Office of the Chancellor; this grant was for the development of assessment strategies

September, 2005

¯    A comprehensive curriculum map was created for the Global Studies and Maritime Affairs Program (GSMA).

April, 2006

¯    A draft curriculum map is created for Mechanical Engineering Program.

June, 2006

¯ Program was awarded its third grant from the California State University Office of the Chancellor; to use of the iSkills Assessment tool as a means of evaluating and enhancing campus information and communication technology initiatives

March, 2007

¯    LIB: 100, Information Fluency in the Digital World is approved by the campus Curriculum Committee and becomes a required course for all GSMA students in the fall of 2007.

April, 2009

¯    Information Fluency is formally identified by the faculty as a set of skills which students are expected to develop through curricular and co-curricular learning opportunities provided by the Academy, and is included in Cal Maritime Academy's Student Learning Outcomes, authored by the Academic Senate.
