Alexander on The War that Killed Achilles

Caroline Alexander's books are about voyages: legendary, historical, and personal.

She has traveled to China, Kashmir, and Ethiopia to locate the inspiration for mythical Xanadu in Coleridge's poem "Kubla Khan."

She has examined letters, diaries, and court records to present a new perspective on the mutinous crew of The Bounty and their voyage to Tahiti.

She has retraced a 19th century journey to equatorial Gabon while reflecting on modern West Africa and travel writing in general.

Born in Florida, Alexander studied at Oxford and Columbia University. She has taught college students in Florida and Malawi. Her best-selling book The Endurance has been translated into 13 languages.
