open access week 2021

The week of October 25-31 is International Open Access Week. What is Open Access Week? We're so glad you asked!

Let the Open Access Week Advisory Committee tell you: "Open Access Week is an opportunity for the global academic and research community to continue to learn about the potential benefits of Open Access, to share what they’ve learned with colleagues, and to help inspire wider participation in helping to make Open Access a new norm in scholarship and research.
Open Access to information – the free, immediate, online access to the results of scholarly research, and the right to use and re-use those results as you need – has the power to transform the way research and scientific inquiry are conducted. It has direct and widespread implications for academia, medicine, science, industry, and for society as a whole."

To celebrate, check out some of the events and recorded videos from the Open Access Week website. Read some open access research published in CSU ScholarWorks institutional repository! And upload your own work to share with a broad audience.

library student advisory councilShare your perspective! The Library is currently recruiting a variety of students from across the Cal Maritime community for the Library Student Advisory Council (LSAC). The Council was first formed in Fall 2019, and we're restarting it now that we're all back on campus again.

Students on the Council would provide input to the Library on policies and services that affect students, offer student perspectives on Library issues, and gather input from other Cal Maritime students. LSAC will meet 4-6 times during the course of the 2021-22 academic year, and we will do our best to accommodate everyone's schedules for meeting times. Meetings will take place roughly once a month for an hour at a time.

This year we’d like to focus on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. How can we make the Library a welcoming place for everyone in the Cal Maritime community?

Are you interested, or do you know any students who might be interested in this role? If so, please contact Margot Hanson at mhanson@csum.edu with recommendations.
