What is ScholarWorks?

ScholarWorks is the Cal Maritime Institution Repository which promotes the research and creative works of Cal Maritime faculty, staff, and students by collecting, preserving, and providing access to their scholarly work and related data. The goals of the repository are to:

  • Provide persistent and centralized access to Cal Maritime scholarship and data
  • Promote research and collaboration within the scholarly community

Members of the Cal Maritime academic community are invited to contribute completed scholarship, data, and accompanying digital artifacts for archiving, long-term preservation, and worldwide electronic accessibility through Cal Maritime ScholarWorks.

Submitting Material to ScholarWorks

How to Submit to Scholarworks

Students/Cadets: 

To submit a project or paper to the Cal Maritime Scholarworks please contact your Liaison Librarian along with the Student Submission Form found at the bottom of the page.

Please complete the Faculty and Publication Submission Form, found at the bottom of the page, and send it to library@csum.edu with the subject: Scholarworks Submission

Who can Submit to Scholarworks?

People associated with Cal Maritime are welcome to submit materials to the Cal Maritime ScholarWorks including faculty, staff and students. 

Content Guidelines

ScholarWorks accepts all kinds of scholarly materials and content including pre-prints, previously published material (if permitted by publisher policy), working papers, presentations, and creative works. Guidelines for submission include:

  • The content must be produced and submitted by Cal Maritime personnel.
  • The content must be related to scholarly, creative, educational activities at Cal Maritime.
  • The content must be in digital form or in a form that can be digitized.
  • The content should be ready for distribution, we will not accept draft forms.
  • The author/owner must be willing and able to grant Cal Maritime the right to preserve and distribute the content via ScholarWorks.

We encourage authors to use the following recommended file types:

  • Text files -- PDF with OCR if possible
  • Maps and Photos -- JPEG preferably TIFF file
  • Audio files -- MP3 file
  • Video files -- MPEG3 or 4 file 
Why Submit to ScholarWorks?

Greater visibility
Freely share your work alongside your Cal Maritime and CSU peers for a global audience. Since Scholarworks can be accessed by anyone you can increase your readership.

Long-term preservation
ScholarWorks is maintained centrally by library professionals in the CSU Chancellor's Office. The CSU Libraries are committed to consistent access as systems and standards change over time.
