Eek! What happened to the home page?

The Library has changed and updated its home page to make it easier for you to find and access what you need. All your favorite resources are still here, but your route to access them looks a bit different. We divided the page into three main content areas: Search & Browse; Help & Support; and Hours, Updates, & About Us. The Help & Support section provides easy access to services and collections based on your information needs.

We asked members of the Cal Maritime community for feedback on the previous home page, and we listened to your recommendations. We also made improvements to the usability based on best practices. We hope you enjoy the new experience.

A big shout out of gratitude to Kitty Luce, our Web Services Librarian, who made it happen! Thanks also go to Amber Janssen for conducting usability testing, and to Margot Hanson for creative and practical input. This update couldn't have happened without Joe Hilton and the University of Liverpool Library, who were generous with their code and their time.

Our Library search tool, OneSearch, recently got a behind-the-scenes upgrade. The underlying program that powers OneSearch, Primo VE, has been updated. Most of what you see when you search won't look any different than what you're used to. You may see more relevant search result rankings and a few other visible improvements here and there. If you have any existing saved book lists or bookmarks to specific titles from before, they should still work. Please let us know if you encounter any changes that you like, or any challenges!

Did you know that Cal Maritime Library now provides access to scholarly ebooks on JSTOR? JSTOR’s “Evidence Based Acquisitions” (EBA) program is being made available to all CSU libraries for the next two years. The program start July 1, 2021 and runs through June 30, 2023, and we have the option to purchase permanent access to the books we need beyond those dates. This resource offers thousands of titles from leading publishers such as Princeton University Press, Yale University Press, and the University of California Press. The ebooks are easy to use and offer the following benefits:

  • Unlimited, DRM-free access: The ebook chapters have no limits on downloads or printing, and there’s no need to use special software or create a login. It’s just like using journals on JSTOR, ensuring a great user experience for you.
  • Integration with journals: The ebooks are available on JSTOR alongside more than 2,000 journals. When you search on JSTOR.org, you’re cross-searching the full text of all the resources the library provides through JSTOR. The ebooks and journals are also linked in ways that make research more efficient.
  • Easy to use in courses: If instructors would like to use the ebooks in a course, you can add the stable URL for a chapter or a full ebook to a syllabus. With on-campus and remote access available 24/7, and no limits on simultaneous use, the ebooks are always available to students.
