The policies of the California Maritime Academy Library

Borrowing Overview

Library materials can be borrowed from the books collection, reserve collection, media collection, and equipment collection by current students, faculty, and staff of Cal Maritime. Check out items at the Help Desk in the Cal Maritime Library.

Books and Audiobooks

Materials covered by this policy include: books, audiobooks, oversize/folio items, best sellers, and graphic novels.

You may renew books in person, through the library website, or by phone (707) 654-1090. Items may not be renewed if requested by another library user.

The Library does not charge overdue fines for books and audiobooks. Materials more than 60 days past due will be considered lost and a replacement fee will be charged.

Reserve Collection

Print materials on RESERVE are loaned for 2 hours with no renewals. Print RESERVE materials must be used in the Library ONLY.

Media materials are loaned for 4 hours with no renewals. Media may be used outside the library.

Selected print reserve materials are loaned for 3 days with no renewals. There is a 2 item limit for these items.

The overdue fine for all Reserve materials is $25.00.

Media

Materials covered by this policy include: DVDs, Blu-Rays, Games & Puzzles.

The Library does not charge overdue fines for media items. Materials more than 60 days past due will be considered lost and a replacement fee will be charged.

Equipment

4-Hour Loans (due before Library closes)

Laptops & iPads

Headphones and computer mice

Calculators, rulers, compasses, colored pencils, and dry erase markers.

 

7-Day Loans (no renewals)

GoPro cameras, tripods, and camera mounts

360 degree spherical panorama cameras

Binoculars and laser presenters

Portable Blu-Ray and DVD players

 

Current semester (no renewals)

Kindle Fire and Nook e-readers. The e-Readers are preloaded with a selection of e-books.


All borrowers are responsible for damaged and lost devices or parts. Any damage to the equipment will be noted on the borrower's record and billed accordingly. The overdue fine for all electronic equipment is $25.00. The replacement charge for lost equipment varies and can be found on the Equipment Guide.

All equipment may be used outside the Library.

All equipment should be returned at the Library Help Desk, not via the Book Drop.

Interlibrary Loan

Physical items, such as books, DVDs, or CDs, not found at the Cal Maritime Library may be requested through CSU+.

All Cal Maritime patrons, whether students, staff, or faculty, have the same CSU+ borrowing terms. They are:

CSU+ book or media or any other Interlibrary Loan material more than 14 days overdue will be considered lost and charged the Replacement Fee.

Physical materials not available at Cal Maritime or through CSU+ may be requested online through this form.

Duration of loan and renewal policies for materials outside on CSU+ are determined by the lending institution.

Replacement Fees

Once a borrower has accrued fees of $25 or more, borrowing privileges will be suspended. For students, a hold will be placed on their academic records until overdue items are returned or fees are paid.

The replacement charge for lost materials (books, AV, etc.) is $115.00 minimum. The replacement charge for lost equipment varies and can be found on the Equipment Guide. All Cal Maritime students, faculty and staff are responsible for replacement costs of lost or damaged materials or equipment.

With prior approval of library staff, a borrower may replace lost or damaged material with an exact copy paid for at their expense.
